Default Control Issues....

A friend insists her child be excluded from any learning activities at daycare, because she feels it will interfere with the bond between herself and her child. She feels that daycare center shouldn't teach things to her child.

While I can understand her fears, it's also unreasonable to have the child languish while other children participate in educational activities.

Have you ever run into this?

It seems that most of the problem lies in the mother wanting complete control over the child, which seems unhealthy.

I'd have to turn the child away.

It is unreasonable to make special provisions for one child simply because the parent wants that type of control.

I can't imagine what might happen when the child has to enter school!

Sounds like it may be easier to simply include the child. If the mom still has issues then she can always hunt for a new daycare slot.

At some point you have to stick with the policies you are comfortable with.
