Default Overnight Care

Some folks have no choice but to work graveyard or other types of shift work.

Do you charge more for children with parents who work graveyard or second shift?

I would charge the same price as the regular day care children. Since the children would be asleep, there would be less supervision required.

It would be like charging more if the kids are sleeping most of the time!

Default overnight

I know of several daycares that do charge extra. Although the kids would be sleeping, these places would consider it supervision after regular hours. They do have their closing hours, ater all.

I know that the daycare's in my area do charge more money for overnight. I think that it's because there are not that many that do open for overnight babysitting.

That brings to mind a question. I wonder if you are allowed more children per adult since they are sleeping?

That may be possible if the parents don't have any problem...but I think their concern will be what if a child gets up and then you are not their to tend the needs of all the children at once.....

Good question!

I imagine you have to check with your local regulating body to find out.

I could see licensing boards actually allowing fewer overnight children because, if there is an emergency, you'd have to wrangle sleeping children, making evacuation kind of tough.

Nap time isn't the same as overnight care, and naps are expected for children under 4 or 5.
