Default Watching television

Do you allow kids to watch television shows like cartoons or movies...or is it a strict no-no....

I will allow them to watch some cartoons, provided that these cartoons are not violent like X-men or the other comic book characters.

A fitting cartoon would be something like Spongebob.

Limited television is ok, IMHO. Educational programs and mild shows like Teletubbies aren't too bad if viewing is limited to one or two shows per day.

Honestly I think that it is quite okay for the kids to watch any child friendly TV shows.

actually even in cartoons that are supposedly kid oriented their is so much voilence shown nowadays that I don't even feel like switching to the kids channel...I would prefer..a specially ordered kids movie or cartoon show...atleast then i can restrain the kids from watching the action...disney is still my best choice.

There are a few programs that I put on and watch with the kids, like word world and super why. I dont allow them to watch Nick, or cartoon network. I'll only let them watch shows on the PBS and in limited amounts. I think its up to the parents to expose them to what they feel appropriate.

Another option might be to always have the History Channel running in the background so that if a child sits down in front of the television, they are sure to see something educational!

We used to have great PBD stations that had nothing but educational programming on them, I am not sure if they are still around.

That is a nice idea sage...actually I do that a lot at home with my kid...whenever he asks the televsion to be switched on...I get the channel like discoveyry or animal planet on...that way he is interested in watching the animals and gets actually interested...

Default television

At my cousin's daycare they use carefully chosen videos -from time to time, not on a regular basis because they want the kids to do more hands-on activities.
